چکیده

Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) is an effective strategy for clutter suppression in airborne radar systems. Limited training data, high computational load and the heterogeneity of training data constitute the main challenges in STAP. Most reduced-rank detection approaches, such as eigenvector decomposition, utilise a linear transformation to reduce the problem dimensionality. In this letter, we propose a new detection strategy based on selecting an optimum subset of antenna-pulse pairs associated with maximum separation between the target and the clutter trajectory. The proposed strategy reduces redundancy while addressing the above three interlinked challenges. An iterative Min-Max algorithm is proposed to solve the antenna-pulse selection problem, which is NP-hard combinatorial optimization. Extensive simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Slow Radar Target Detection in Heterogeneous Clutter using Thinned STAP

We address the problem of slow target detection in heterogeneous clutter through dimensionality reduction. Traditional approaches of implementing the space-time adaptive processing (STAP) require a large number of training data to estimate the clutter covariance matrix. In order to address the issue of limited training data especially in the heterogeneous scenarios, we propose a novel thinned S...

Phased Array Radar Data Processing Using Adaptive Displaced Phase Centre Antenna Principle

Employing the autoregressive (AR) technique and the principle of displaced phase centre antenna (DPCA) we construct an optimum adaptive DPCA processor for moving target detection from airborne phased arrary radar data collected under nonDPCA conditions. It is fundamentally different from the existing adaptive DPCA which is not optimum. The number of range samples it needs to estimate its parame...

A Reduced Rank STAP and Staggered PRF for Multiple Target Situations

In this paper, we first present the principles of STAP and discuss the properties of optimum detector, as well as problems associated with estimating the adaptive weights such as ambiguities and the high computational cost. The performances are evaluated highlighting the influence of radar parameters on the detection of slow targets. To resolve problem of high computational cost of optimal STAP...

Adaptive Space-Time Beamforming in Radar Systems

1.1 Introduction Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) techniques [Klemm (2002)],[Melvin (2004)] have been thoroughly investigated in the last decades as a key enabling technology for advanced airborne radar applications following the seminal work by Brennan and Reed [Brennan and Reed (1973)]. A great deal of attention has been given to STAP algorithms and different strategies to design space-t...

@‘‡rqrqÃ6i†‡…hp‡ The focus of this work involves the investigation of parallelization and performance improvement for a class of radar signal processing techniques known as space-time adaptive processing (STAP). STAP refers to an extension of adaptive antenna signal processing methods that operate on a set of radar returns gathered from multiple elements of an antenna array over a specified ti...
